Heineken Regatta

The Heineken Regatta organizes a yearly sailing race on Sint Maarten. For six years it had run on a Microsoft Access 97 application, and it needed a system where members could arrange more themselves online.

The new system was built by volunteers, on tools that were still in beta. A group of Atos Origin volunteers built it on the betas of Visual Studio Team System 2005, .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005, and set up the complete IT environment, software and hardware. I was requirements engineer, architect and developer, and coached the team.

As a Software Developer and Architect, my responsibilities included:

• Gathering the requirements with the organization
• Designing the architecture of the new system
• Building the system on .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005, both still in beta
• Coaching the volunteer developers
