Emission reporting rebuilt for the web

Technical Project Manager / Architect – Atos Origin

Jun 2009 – Dec 2009

Every year, the countries in the Kyoto Protocol report their greenhouse gas emissions. In the Netherlands, industry reports through e-MJV, the electronic environmental annual report, a Windows application in Visual Basic 6 with a web service as backend. RIVM, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, had it rebuilt as a web application in ASP.NET, with a number of new modules.

The rebuild was directed from the Netherlands and built in India. Atos Origin India did the development and testing through its software development center. Together with the project manager there, I was responsible for the project: contact with the client and directing the teams in India. I focused on the process and the technical questions.

As a Technical Project Manager and Architect, my responsibilities included:

  • Directing the rebuild of a Visual Basic 6 desktop application into an ASP.NET web application
  • Directing the development and test teams in India, together with their project manager
  • Handling the technical questions and the development process
  • Training key users, in particular on Reporting Services
