Explaining 90% of train deviations
Software Developer / Application Architect – Atos Origin

The Dutch Ministry of Transport asked ProRail, the manager of the Dutch railway infrastructure, to explain the problems on the railway: 90% of train deviations had to get a cause.
Every deviation needed a cause and an owner. Deviations are detected automatically from real-time rail data and presented to traffic control. Once a cause is recorded and released, it is assigned automatically to one of the parties involved. I designed and built the WinForms applications for recording and approving causes, with an automated development process.
Approving a cause brought several parties together. In an approval process, the carriers, traffic control and infrastructure management work with a central verification office to handle each cause correctly.
